Telangana JAC was on Pongal holidays and it has now returned back? It seems. Just recently everyone in the state celebrated Sankranti. The city of Hyderabad was so colorful where the people who came from Andhra regions designed the entrances of their houses with some beautifully designed rangolis and the people from Telangana regions came up with their typical "Jai Telangana" rangolis similar to the one shown above. Everything in the city seemed to be functioning normally and no one was expecting anything to happen before 28th of January, the deadline given to Sonia Gandhi by Telangana JAC.

But the suicide of K. Venugopal Reddy, a final year MCA student of age 23, and a follow up suicide by Suvarna, a first year B.Sc. student of age 18, started the fire again in the City. It was not sure at the moment whether JAC is making use of this opportunity or the situation was deliberately created by them, but the 48 hours of shutdown is causing lot of frustration among the citizens of Hyderabad.

Blame is on media that they are showing every suspicious death as a heroic suicide for Telangana. When a person dies, and if a suicide letter is found saying that the victim killed himself for separate Telangana, media immediately highlights it and presents it with a tagline "Telangana Raademonane Bengatho Student Athmahatya". With such taglines they get more TRP ratings, but is it not the responsibility of the media to find out the facts first, before airing the news? A guy who suffered from the recent attacks on Reliance retail stores commented that "Media is equal to any terrorist group, only difference is that the media does not require any bombs to cause the violence.", and it seems to be true. Our media is slowly becoming dangerous than terrorist groups and stronger than our government.

At the other end, Politicians, when they find out that someone committed suicide for Telangana, they try to figure out how effectively they can make use of this opportunity. Unless they stop calling these innocent fools, who kill themselves instead of fighting for what they want, as Heroes and Freedom Fighters, we will keep hearing about such suicides. Initially when Srikanth died by setting himself ablaze at LB Nagar, it was rumoured that he was offered 4 lakh rupees for the feat, and they promised him that they will save him from the flames. But he was not saved by anyone, and the family did not get any compensation either from the government or from those who offered him. It could be a rumour, but if it is true, then we must be ashamed of the society in which we live.
