Super Star Krishna is said to have known for his daring and dashing ventures. Many times, he attempted to defy two giants of Tollywood, NTR and ANR, those days. When he announced the remake of Akkineni Nageswara Rao's 'Devadasu', many industry people raised their eyebrows with lot of surprise as they never expected such a challenge from Krishna. Many well-wishers advised him not to proceed with the project and should not get any rivalry with ANR as the role ANR played in 'Devadasu' is one of the greatest characterizations of Tollywood and no actor could do right justice to that role.
However, Krishna didn't care anybody's words, and he finished the project. The movie was released on 6th December, 1974. Like old 'Devadasu', Krishna's 'Devadasu' was also filled with melodious songs with nice picturization. However, ANR didn't keep mum at the time of its release. He got his old 'Devadasu' to be re-released in every centre of Andhra Pradesh where Krishna's 'Devadasu' was releasing. Moreover, ANR's 'Devadasu' was released at the nearest theaters where Krishna's 'Devadasu' was screening. Once again ANR's magic in the character of 'Devadasu' worked out well and his movie went super hit on its re-release as well. Krishna's 'Devadasu' was misfired at the box office miserably. That is how ANR took revenge on Krishna for copying his subject.
